Global event promotes pursuit of peace | Worship

Against the tragic backdrop of a historic conflict in Europe, the people of the Quad-Cities region will unite with millions around the world to promote peace by participating in an annual six-part event scheduled for July and August. .

“We look forward to conventions every year. Over the past three years, we have all been through different anxieties, difficulties and hardships,” said Rafael Medrano of Bartonville, Illinois, who along with his family plans to attend every virtual session throughout the summer. “The convention gives us the opportunity to hear something encouraging. We are very happy that the theme has to do with peace, which is exactly what we need right now.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have been hosting worldwide conventions for more than 100 years, with the past three years offering virtual events accessible through the free JW Library app or at jw.org. The first segment of the program was available to stream or download on June 27. All are welcome to attend the program free of charge.

“This convention is an object lesson in how peace is currently achieved by a global community, as it unites millions of people, even in conflict zones like Ukraine and Russia,” said Robert Hendriks, American spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “The power of the principles discussed transcends national borders, ethnic differences and language barriers. Individuals and families will benefit from participating in the program.

Prior to 2020, Jehovah’s Witnesses held their annual convention locally at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. While they hope to hold large in-person gatherings again in the future, the decision was made late last year to hold the 2022 convention virtually again. On April 1, the Witness congregations of Jehovah began meeting in person for the first time in two years locally and around the world.

The three-day convention will be broken down into six parts, each corresponding to a half-day of content. Topics to explore are:

• How love leads to inner peace and peace with others.
