Kimba Lenard Clemmons, 64, known for her kindness, love and authenticity

A time to be born … Kimba Lenard Clemmons was born January 16, 1957 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of Emra and Doris Clemmons.

A time to learn … Kimba was educated in Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Technical High School in 1974. He continued his education at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Kimba was always up for a challenge. He was crowned the very first “M. Benoît. While at Benedict, he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Incorporated. He would later continue his studies at San Jose City College, San Jose, California, Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, Virginia Polytechnical Institute, Blacksburg, Virginia, and Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia.

A time to love … After graduating from Benedict College in May 1978, Kimba had the opportunity to travel with the Benedict’s Concert College Choir in New Providence, Bahamas. There he met the love of his life and a soul mate, Marla Machelle Butler. On Christmas Day 1984, Kimba and Marla united in a holy marriage. During their 42 years of union, they were fortunate enough to have four wonderful children.

A time of worship … Kimba loved the Lord. He gave his life to Christ from an early age. Kimba loved his church family. He had a passion to serve while giving back to others. Kimba has always possessed the spirit of a servant leader. Kimba was a deacon at the New Beech Grove Baptist Church for many years. He also served in the Male Chorus and Drama Ministry.

A working time … Kimba was a man of many talents. He was an actor, comedian and journalist. A few years after graduation he joined the United States Army as a sports reporter / editor for the United States Army public affairs office stationed at Fort. Eustis, Virginia. Kimba toured the world with The Army Soldier Show in 1988. Entertainment was HIS PASSION. Kimba felt “the most alive” on stage. In charge of Kimba’s career, he produced and hosted “THE KIMBA CLEMMONS SHOW”. The hour-long entertainment montage featured the hottest personalities in the country and featured the best amateur performers from the Hampton Roads area. Kimba went on to achieve many other dreams and lifelong goals, appearing in numerous plays, films, hosting various shows in the Hampton Roads area, including as an on-air personality at WHOV 88.1 with her own talk show “The Word According to Kimba.”

A time to serve … Kimba has held many roles in the community. For many years he worked with The United Negro College Fund, Inc. as a host. Kimba was a “Nupe” at heart. He bled “crimson and cream”. He was an active and dedicated member of the Hampton / Newport News alumni chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he continually provided service to the community through his fellowship.

A time to die … Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 10:30 am at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, “His Lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful for few things, I will make you master of many things: enter into the joy of your Lord ”. After 64 years of being a servant leader, the Lord called him home. Kimba entered her place of eternal rest with her mother, Doris L. Clemmons, her father, Emra Clemmons, her stepmother, Charlesetta Clemmons and her sister Robin Bailey.

A time to cherish … Kimba’s spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of his loving and dedicated wife, Marla Clemmons, his four children, Niko, Kimbale, Bakari and Karen (Larry), his two grandchildren, Kayla and Kennedy, his daughter. in love Toneta and Tony. and Onetra.

A time to celebrate … A service to celebrate Kimba’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the New Beech Grove Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the start of the service. The entombment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mr. Clemmons can be seen Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Face coverings are mandatory in all departments.
