The first reactions to the new film ‘West Side Story’ directed by Steven Spielberg and we can tell that moviegoers love it.

‘West Side Story’ premiered last night at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater in New York City.

Those lucky enough to attend praised Spielberg’s leadership and introduced newcomer Rachel Zegler as a star in the making.

The film was called “daring and moving” as well as “phenomenal”.

Many of them deemed him “Spielberg leading” and said they were wrong to be “skeptical”.

The production’s choreography, cinematography, and design have also received rave reviews, with some even saying the new “West Side Story” is better than the 1961 multi-Oscar winner.

Rachel Zegler plays Maria in the new film, whose romance with Tony from Ansel Elgort seems impossible as they are linked to rival local gangs, the Sharks and Jets.

Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo and Mike Faist as Riff also received praise for their performances.

Rita Moreno, who starred in the 1961 film, appears in the remake in a new role.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions to the film.
