Chennai, January 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the general public will not be allowed to enter places of worship from January 14 to 18 due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. The state will have a full lockdown on January 16 (Sunday). However, essential services will be exempt, a state government statement said.
Passengers will only be allowed up to 75% of the seating capacity on buses and current Covid restrictions will continue in the state until January 31.
Tamil Nadu had reported 13,958 new positive cases for Covid-19 on Monday and the number of active cases in the state stood at 62,767. State Minister of Health Ma Subramanian had told residents of state to be on guard and celebrate festivals at home, as the third wave has already started in the state.
The preventive-dose vaccine for healthcare workers, frontline workers and people over the age of 60 with co-morbidities also began in the state on Monday.
