September 26 marked the festive start of Navratri, a very auspicious nine-day celebration. Devotees across the country worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga during this festival with utmost enthusiasm and fervor.

Many Bollywood movies have expertly portrayed the very essence of Navratri over the years. This piece compiles a list of Hindi movies that have captured the spirit of Navaratri well.

Ram Leela

The energy of the nine-day festival was perfectly captured by lovebirds Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the 2013 film Golyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela.In the film version of the famous song Nagade Sang Dhol Baaje, Leela dances the Garba during Navaratri. Another song by Ram-Leela, Lahu Munh Lag Gaya, brought Navaratri pleasure to Ranveer and Deepika.

Kai Po Che

The film Kai Po Che, based on the novel 3 Mistakes of My Life by Chetan Bhagat, pays homage to the true meaning of the Navaratri festival. Gujarat is the setting of the film, which shows the nine-day festival celebrated by dancing to Garba and Dandiya. Kai Po Che features Rajkummar Rao and Amrita Puri dancing to the rhythmic beats of the film’s song Shubhaarambh.


Aayush Sharma and Warina Hussain Loveyatri is the last film to appear in this list. The journey of two lovers, who meet for the first time during the Navaratri festival, is central to the plot of the film. The film’s Chogada song was the Garba anthem of that year and is still played today at Navaratri celebrations all over the country.


In this mystery thriller starring Vidya Balan, she plays a pregnant woman who travels to Kolkata in search of her missing husband. Devi Durga’s strength in all women was beautifully shown in the film.

Hum Dil From Chuke Sanam

who can forget Hum Dil From Chuke Sanamthe famous song Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje? One of the best known Garba songs to date is Dhali Taro Dhol Baaje which features Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai.
