UN chief condemns attack on church in Nigeria

United Nations, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Sunday’s church attack in Nigeria’s Ondo state, which claimed many lives, his spokesman said.

“The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the heinous attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, on June 5, which left many civilians dead and injured while that people were gathering for the Pentecost service,” Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson, said in a statement.


“The Secretary-General stresses that attacks on places of worship are heinous. He urges the Nigerian authorities to spare no effort to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement quoted by Xinhua news agency said.

António Guterres offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He also expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the government and people of Nigeria, he added.
